TecPlex® 2460 Increased Bearing Life in a Cold Rolling Cluster Mill  

THE CHALLENGE

Sleeve bearings in a customer’s Cold Rolling Cluster Mill are typically pulled out at 50,000 feet for regreasing. This cost the operation 12 bearings per day and $24,000 per day operational losses. That’s why this customer turned to Daubert and switched to TecPlex® 2460 to extend the longevity of their sleeve bearings.

THE SOLUTION

Daubert conducted a trial using TecPlex® 2460 to help extend bearing life. The Cold Rolling Cluster Mill has nine backing rollers on each side, which allows the working rolls to exert the pressure needed to cold roll harder metals such as stainless steel without bending the rolls. 

THE RESULTS

TecPlex® 2460 delivered exceptional performance at 70,000 feet and eventually 150,000 feet without needing replacement. Currently, the bearings are running at 250,000 feet. Since this customer switched to TecPlex® 2460, they haven’t lost a single bearing and are recommending switching all 33 mills to TecPlex® 2460.
