New Environmentally-Friendly Products From Daubert Chemical Company Announced

Chicago, January 1, 2010:

Two new water-based undercoatings that are wax-based, and two new water-based hard film undercoatings from Daubert Chemical have been added to the Tectyl® lineup. In addition, Daubert has announced they have added a new Citrus based cleaner.

Tectyl® 4033 and Tectyl® 1771 are water-based undercoatings used in the transportation industry. Tectyl® 4033, which is black, has seen widespread usage in the transportation industry (including rail car manufacturers). Tectyl® 1771, which is amber in color, is being used most notably by trailer manufacturers. Both offer lower VOC formulations which amount to approximately ½ lb/gallon versus the typical 3.5 lbs/gallon in solvent-based undercoatings. Manufacturers are appreciative of these low VOC undercoatings because they are environmentally-friendly.

Tectyl® 3305 and Tectyl® 3335 are water-based undercoats having a hard film. Both provide maximum chip resistance and both can be applied direct to metal or on top of OEM E-coated finishes to further protect these coatings from chipping. Tectyl® 3305 and Tectyl® 3335 VOC levels are ½ lbs/gallon as compared to the 3.5 lbs/gallon of their solvent-based counterparts.

"These products are being used more and more by environmentally conscious manufacturers," said Frank Vella, product manager at Daubert. "They want to minimize employee exposure to volatile solvents, be more environmentally responsible in the plant in general, and for ease of disposal purposes. We're seeing a high rate of transitioning over to the water-based, low VOC undercoatings."

New Citrus Based Cleaner Also Announced

Walk into any auto parts store and you'll see the citrus cleaners on the shelves. Daubert Chemical has added one to their shelves as well -- Tectyl® 602-81. "It's primarily focused on the needs of manufacturers who need to clean off temporary corrosion protectants prior to final finishing," said Mr. Vella. "They'll use Tectyl® 602-81 because of the more environmentally-friendly aspects of a citrus-based cleaner versus solvent-based cleaners both in terms of the cleaning process and waste disposal."
